problem with phillips arcade monitor
Question from Gary: Hey Guys,
So I recently converted a Mortal Kombat cab into a mame machine and it has been working great for about the last month or so. I went to turn it on this morning and when I flicked the switch for the monitor I had a rolling screen display for about 15 seconds followed by a REALLY loud hissing. I turned off the monitor then I started to smell burnt plastic / electrical smells…. Knowing this is definitely not good I quickly unplugged everything but started wondering if the computer was alright. Tried just powering it up and it appears everything is just fine so I decide once more for troubleshooting purposes I would power up the monitor to see what happens. I check all connections and flip the switch and the sound happens again coming directly from the back of the monitor. Judging by watching one of your videos along with what I have researched so far I have a feeling it may be the flyback?
I am new to monitors and kinda so/so on working on this myself as I understand the dangers of not properly respecting these things and the volts they hold. I was wondering if you could maybe give me some advice on how to narrow down whether or not it is the flyback and what a safe way would be to go about repairing it?
Thanks in advance!

Response from Tim: That’s exactly what it sounds like is the flyback. There is a video on our newest DVD on how to test and replace those.
I also see that you are in San Antonio. Mark who runs our facebook site is from there also. Just curious if you guys had met.
Let me know if we can be of more help
Tim
