Problem with Rush the Rock arcade
Question from Mike: Hi. I am having issues with my Rush the Rock arcade and I am hoping you could help me. I bought it from an operator and played it on location just fine. When I plugged it in at home, it started up, runs the steering test and then it would say “no signal.” So I adjusted the power supply and it would last a little longer before the reboot would happen. I think I found where to read the voltage on the main board. So I adjusted the power supply so the board read 5.11v and 12.65v. That seemed a little high but if I lower it, the game shuts off and reboots as before. So at 5.11v and 12.65v, the game runs fine as long as you don’t play it. If I start playing the game, it lasts about a minute or two before it says “no signal” and reboots again. I don’t know very much about arcades but from what I have gathered online it seems it’s a bad power supply. It’s a Suzo Happ and the operator told me it is a year old. Do you think it could be something else other than a power supply? I really didn’t want to buy another one until I was pretty confident that was the problem. First off, I wouldn’t be worried about having the voltages a little higher than usual. This is very common on driving games and other games that use additional motors, controls, etc. With that said, it sounds like the power supply is not putting out enough amperage for the game. If this is the case, you should have a voltage drop whenever you try to start the game. You might try reading the voltage while someone else starts the game to see if the voltage is actually dropping.
Amperage issues such as this could be caused by a bad power supply or by someone installing a power supply that’s “too small” (i.e. amperage is too low) for the game. Make sure that if you order a new power supply that you get the one that matches the recommended power supply from the manual for your game. It should also be said that this issue can be caused by wiring issues or other parts putting a drain on your power supply as well but a new power supply might be a good place to start.
