Problems with colors on Icade 60-in-1 PCB
Question from Darren: I have just installed an Icade 60-in-1 PCB, which I bought second hand from eBay, into my JAMMA cab. The monitor has been rotated from horizontal to vertical. Basically, the colors are screwed up on the games, more noticeably on Donkey Kong because Mario and the girders are purple and not red and Frogger as most things look purple (logs, lily pads, everything). On the opening test color bar screen, most of the squares are purple and colors look dull and flat. Not nice and colorful and vibrant like I’ve seen on other Icade 60-in-1’s. Do you know what I’m doing wrong? I am a complete novice and never done anything like this before. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received. Kind regards, Darren

Response from Jonathan: Darren,
You might start off your repair by making sure that all of the color wires that run from your 60-in-1 board to your monitor chassis are making a good connection. Rotating a monitor can sometimes put stress on the wires which might cause them to break or comes loose from the monitor connector. It’s also a good idea to touch up the solder on the input pins where the video wires connect to the monitor chassis. Cold or cracked solder joints on these pins can also cause issues such as this.
Since it’s a 60-in-1 board, you could also try hooking a computer monitor up to the VGA output on the board to see if the colors are correct. If the colors are correct on the computer monitor, you know it’s an issue with your arcade monitor. Otherwise it could be an issue with your 60-in-1 board which would not be uncommon.
This issue could also be caused by a bad color output transistor on your neck board. These do go bad from time to time and will cause a some colors to go missing. Check out our post on Checking A Monitor Tube for more information on color output transistors.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and keep us updated on your progress.
