Running a game outside of its cabinet
Question from Steve. Hello, I have a Ms. Pac Man Cabaret and I am replacing the cabinet since it was in a flood and has bad water damage to it. While I am replacing the cabinet I have pulled all the components out of the cabinet and have it all on a table. I wanted to work on the components while the cabinets build is going on so I connected everything up and plugged it to power and I am not getting anything on the monitor. The monitor is powering up but it acts like the PCB is not working because it is not making anything sound through the speakers. Everything worked before I pulled it out of the cabinet so I am not sure I am not doing something right connecting it up. I tried to double check all the connections to make sure everything is connected properly. I am not sure if I have a grounding issue. I connected my grounds to the frame of the monitor. Please let me know if there is anything I might be doing wrong. Thank you, Steve from Owasso, OK

Response from Jonathan: Steve,
If you think that your PCB is not working you may try checking your voltage at the harness to see if it is getting power. If you are using the original Ms. Pac Man power supply then you should be getting 7 VAC on pins 3 & 4 (pins 1 & 2 are ground) and 12 VAC on pins 19 & 20 (pins 21 & 22 are also ground). You can also check it at the power supply itself but checking it at the harness will give you a more accurate idea of the voltage that’s getting to the board.
Also, there’s a lot of good information on Pac Man machines on Lawnmowerman’s Pac-man Website which can be found here: http://lawnmowerman.rotheblog.com/. Check out that site for even more troubleshooting tips related to Pac Man arcade games.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
