Sanyo ez 20 monitor

Question from Jason: Hi guys, First let me say, I love your series. As some who has just began to collect some games (7) your videos are just so helpful and encouraging. On to my question. I have just completed my first attempt at a cap kit on my Sanyo ez monitor. After replacing all the caps from the Bob Roberts cap kit, I installed the monitor back into the cab and turned it on. I have now what seems to be no power to the monitor. I believed I smelled something burning briefly but it went away quickly and have not smelled it again as I have turned it on a couple of times since. What should I check for proper setup. Should I replace fuses? Did I do something wrong to blow a fuse if that is what happened? Any help or guidance would so appreciated!! Thanks again, Jason from Indiana

Response from Jonathan: Jason,

Sounds like it’s time to do a visual inspection of the board. We talk about this in our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board which you might want to check out. Even though we talk about an arcade board in the post, many of these concepts can be applied to a monitor chassis as well. Since you did the cap kit on this, you might want to double check that all of the caps look good and that they were installed correctly (i.e. values match, polarity match, etc.). After that, start looking for burned spots on the board as this could indicate an issue.

On the fuses, you might take them out and test them with your multimeter. See our post on Checking Fuses With A Multimeter for more information. Of course, if they test bad then you will need to replace them. You might also want to review our posts on Troubleshooting Games That Are Playing Blind and Checking Diodes On An Arcade Monitor. These talk about some common fail points to check whenever you have a monitor that’s not getting power.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
