Sega STV motherboard question
Question from Julian: Hi guys,
I sold someone a Sega STV motherboard package with a bunch of games through the mail. The board was working great when it was mine, and in fact I used it to test out cabinets because it was JAMMA and 6 buttons if you used the Golden Axe fighting game. When the person I sent it to recieved it, the shot 1 button for player 1 does not work for him, every other control works fine. I tried telling him to clean pin 22 on the JAMMA connector to the STV motherboard, and to try another board in the cabinet. He says he has tried two other boards (a Neo Geo MVS 1 slot) and player 1 button 1 works fine on those.
I have offered him a refund but he says he is happy with it, so I really want to know what could be wrong with the STV motherboard to forward him the information. I packed it very well so I really doubt it was damaged in shipping, but you never know.
Thanks,
Julian

Response from Jonathan: Julian,
Sounds like you gave the guy pretty good advice. The fact that P1 button 1 is working on the other boards is puzzling. It pretty much says that this problem is in the STV board. There is an outside possibility that your STV board could have had a problem in shipping but that is highly unlikely. He could try cleaning the JAMMA connector with a pencil eraser like we recommend in our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board. He might also try getting into the test mode and doing the input test for the game to see if the board is registering the switch. Hope that helps.
Thank you for your question and good luck with your future repairs.
