Sound problem
Question from Jesse: Hi my name is jesse. I live in roscoe texas. I have a punch-out arcade, everything looks to be original and has not been tampered with. Everything works except the sound. The left speaker works, but it doesn’t really sound good. The right speaker does not sound at all. Although if i turn it up, it makes a small humming sound. Lastly there is no music, only sound effects. I already set the music to the on position on the pcb, and the speaker does not appear to be busted. I traced the two speaker wires back to a transformer that is on a board inside the monitor chassis, but i dont really know where it goes after that. Any idea of what is wrong? Also i want to try to keep everything on the arcade as original as possible. Thanks guys 🙂

Nintendo cabinets, like your Punch-Out, have an audio amp located on the monitor. If your cabinet has two monitors, you will have 2 audio amps (one for each speaker). It could be that the audio amp that goes to the right speaker is not working properly. You could try swapping the two audio amps to see if that gets your right speaker working. If it does, you will need to buy a new audio amp or install an audio amp repair kit on your current board.
As far as the music goes, this sounds more like a board issue. You might check out our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board. You might be able to get your music working again just by cleaning up the board a bit and reseating some of the chips.
