Space Invaders Deluxe
Question from Joe: I just bought a non working Space Invaders Deluxe. It had a horizontal line across the screen. I guess you call this vertical collapse. I opened the coin door and seen a piece of duct tape on the coil width adjuster. Upon removing the monitor chassis I found the coil width adjuster was disconnected on the one side. I soldered it but it was rough. The traces came off the board to some degree. So I soldered a small wire to the next connection. I checked with my multimeter before reinstalling and it was good
Now the other side of the connection didn’t lead to anywhere on the board. When I touched it up with solder, half the trace popped of it. Not sure where to go with that side because there’s no where else on the board that I could wire too.
Anyhow I figured that I would see if this helped. I put it back together and powered up.
The game came on for the first time. The characters are fuzzy or not well formed and the screen has a slight tilt to the right side…..see the picture. Where do I go from here?

Response from Jonathan: Probably need to try adjusting the monitor. Check out our post on Adjusting An Arcade Monitor for more information. The tilt might need to be adjusted by rotating the yoke manually. If you decide to adjust the yoke, please do this with the game unplugged because you don’t want to shock yourself.
You might also need to do some work on the board. Double check all of the connectors and make sure all of the chips are making a good connection as well. Check out our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board for more information.
