Taito Superman power question
Question from Marc: I have an Atari Food Fight cabinet that was converted years ago to a Taito Superman. I am in the process of retro fitting it with an LCD monitor due to the original one failing and costing too much to repair/replace near me. My question is if I am going to replace the monitor can I take out the old massive power supply and put in a more modern power supply? Thank you in advance!

Response from Jonathan: Marc,
Yes, it should now be possible to take out the classic power supply and put a new, modern switching power supply in it’s place. Since you are installing a new LCD monitor, the isolation transformer that was required for the CRT monitor should not be necessary. While it is possible that they left the original ARII board in there to power the Superman board, I wouldn’t be surprised if you already have a switching power supply installed in the cabinet and they just left the original wiring there so they didn’t have to take the time to remove it. You might trace down the voltage wires from the harness where your Superman board connects to see where they lead to. If they are indeed hooked up to an ARII board, you can remove it and wire up a switching power supply in it’s place.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
