Time crisis 2

Question from Rommy: Hi there,

1) My arcade has a problem. I have connected everything OK but I don’t know why there is a white screen on the monitor. Sound is playing but I’m still getting a white screen.

2) I have another game and when I start it up (power on), it just turns on the lights but doesn’t appear to have anything on the screen just black. The first problem was a system battery is low error. When I replaced the battery, nothing comes on the screen just black.

Regards,
Rommy

Response from Jonathan: Rommy,

On your first issue, it sounds like the video signal is not getting to the monitor from the board. This could be caused by a number of issues including incorrect voltage getting to your board, bad or frayed wiring between your board and monitor chassis, loose connector pins on your monitor chassis, etc. We recommend checking the voltages from your power supply first just to make sure the board is getting good power. Once you’re sure the board is getting the correct voltage, start checking the wires and connectors that run from your board to your monitor. Make sure that all of the wires are making a good connection. Also, you might touch up the solder on the pins on your monitor chassis where the video connector comes in. The solder on these pins tends to crack over time just from plugging and unplugging the connector. If you try all this and you’re still not getting a picture then you probably have another problem with your monitor chassis.

Your second issue sounds like you could have power and/or board issues. We recommend checking the power to make sure the board is getting good voltage. If the board still doesn’t work with the correct voltage going to it then you could have a board issue. Please keep in mind that some arcade boards actually stop working when the battery dies. A good example of this would be Capcom CPS-2 boards. Once the battery dies on these boards, the board completely stops working. This is known as CPS-2 suicide. If your board is in this condition, you will need someone to revive it for you. You can do this process yourself but you will need a ROM burner along with some other tools. You might do some internet searches on your board to see if this is the case with the game you’re working on.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your questions and good luck with your repairs.
