Time Pilot power source
Question from Nick: Hi. It’s Nick again about the power source and I’m still having trouble. I’m 12 and I’m trying to do it on my own. I sent some pictures and it’s just really frustrating that I can’t figure it out! I looked at the manual and the other thing you sent me but I still can’t figure it out. PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you! Nick

Response from Jonathan: Nick,
First off, don’t get too frustrated. Repairing anything electronic takes time. As complicated as arcade games seem to be, they really only consist of 3 parts: a board, a monitor and a power supply. Most of these items can be repaired (by yourself or someone else) or replaced quite easily. The only thing you need to worry about is how to remove them and install them back into the cabinet. So, take a couple of deep breaths and relax. You’ll figure it out.
Actually you’re in better shape than we may have thought initially. It looks like someone has already upgraded your Time Pilot to a switching power supply which is great! Does the light on the power supply come on when you power the game on? If so, it means that your power supply is at least getting AC power from the wall plug but it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s putting out the right DC voltage to the board. In order to check this, you will need a multimeter. At this point, we recommend checking out our post on Checking And Replacing A Power Supply which has some great information on working with power supplies like this one. If you determine the voltage is too low, you can try turning it up to see if it makes a difference. If you can’t get the DC voltages where they need to be, you may need to replace the power supply altogether. You can get a replacement from Twisted Quarter or any of the retailers listed under the Arcade Parts Suppliers & Distributors heading on our resources page.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
