Total Carnage monitor issues, please help?
Question from Chris: Hello Arcade Repair Tips! A few weeks ago I bought a Total Carnage cabinet (converted from Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, apparently from the Disneyland Hotel!) and a Truxton Two cabinet (converted from a Street Fighter machine I think) for $50 for both! Great deal I thought especially considering they power on, play and everything! Truxton Two is great except for some very minor burning on the very bottom. Total Carnage, however, is a bit worse. I cleaned up the circuit board all nice and everything but it didn’t fix the problems, which leaves the power supply, transformer and monitor. First off, there’s a greenish tint/haze to the screen when it starts up. Sometimes it goes away after a few minutes, sometimes not at all. Secondly, the left 3rd or so of the screen is very dark. How dark seems to change depends on the screen. When it shows the intro screen. It seems not too bad but when the attract mode starts, it gets very very dark. And finally, the sound works but there’s a strange rumble that increases with the volume pot. When the rumbles going, the screen sort of “flickers” with these horizontal lines throughout the screen. I went into the test mode and during switch/controls test, after playing around with the joysticks, I noticed it would go away a few seconds after I wasn’t pressing anything. Once I pressed a button or moved the stick again, it would start up again. This is the only time the rumble and flicker would stop. Even during gameplay whether I was pressing a button or not, the rumble and flicker were constant. I’m not too sure where to go now as I don’t have much experience with monitors. Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated. I’ve been watching your videos and reading your articles for a short while now and they’ve been a great help for me :D! Thank you for the help you’ve already given me through those!
