TRON Graphics

Question from Denis: Hi There, I have a Tron that I bought as a project. Overall its in pretty OK shape. When I turn it on everything works. The problem is The moving graphics are fuzzy with lines through them (i.e. the tank maze is perfect but the tanks and tank shells have big lines running through them). The light cycle arena and lines are perfect but the bikes are fuzzy and have big lines through them etc. Please see pictures. Do you think you can help? I do have access to another Tron unit with a damaged monitor and no control panel for parts. Regards, Denis

Question from Jonathan: Denis,

We’ve definitely seen this symptom before. Most of the time this is caused by an issue with the ribbon cables on the Tron PCB set. You can read more about this problem on the MCR Replacement Ribbon Cables page on Bob Roberts site. You can try to disconnect/reconnect them to see if it makes a difference but we usually recommend replacing them entirely as they tend to get very brittle and damaged over time. Of course, it’s also a good idea to check your power supply to make sure it’s getting good voltage to your board as well. Hopefully between these two suggestions you can get your Tron board 100% working.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
