Tron Power Brick

Question from Jeff: Hello, I have a repair question for you. I have a Tron Upright. Last week it flat out died on me. I am getting no power at all to the game. Could it be the big blue capacitors coming off the transformer? My Tron is 100% original with no switching power supply modification. Jeff

Response from Jonathan: Jeff,

Yes, it could be a problem with the big blue capacitor but it could also be a problem with the MCR board as well. Start off your repair by figuring out whether any voltage is getting to the MCR board. If no power is getting to the MCR board then you probably have a bad big blue capacitor. If power is getting to your MCR board then it could be a problem with the MCR board itself. In this case, you could try rebuilding the MCR board. I believe our friend Bob Roberts sells an MCR rebuild kit or would know where to get one if you need it. Arcade Shop also sells a MCR conversion kit that will allow you to use a switching power supply instead and make the game much more reliable. Of course, since your game is currently all original you may not want to do this. The choice is yours.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
