Golden Tee ’99

Question from Mark: Hi, I have a Golden Tee ’99 arcade game that’s having some issues. The graphics colors aren’t accurate. Parts of fairways are brown, sections of the putting surfaces are black and white looking. In general, colors not accurate or clear.

Also, the test switch inside the coin op door was disconnected by a previous owner, apparently. Flipping dip switch #1 to access the operator mode doesn’t produce any results on the screen. Moving the track ball and pressing the start button makes sounds, but there’s no text on the screen except for some very quick blips of “voltage ok” etc.

The game works, but colors are bad, and I can’t access operator or test menu.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely –
Mark

Response from Jonathan: Mark,

The graphics problems you are experiencing could be related to a board issue. Before we jump to that conclusion, we recommend checking the power supply to make sure that it is putting out the correct voltage to the board. Even though you are getting a “voltage ok” message on the screen, it doesn’t necessarily mean that is the case. Check the voltage with a multimeter at your power supply and at the harness that connects to the board to make sure all voltages are correct and consistent. Check out our post on Checking And Replacing A Power Supply for more information. Even if the voltage is exactly correct, you might try turning it up just a bit past the expected voltage to see if it solves the issue (i.e. turn the +5 VDC line up to 5.1 or so).

If you continue to have problems after checking and adjusting the power supply, you might indeed have a board issue. Check out our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board for some tips that might help you out with your issue. If the issues continue after trying the steps in this post, you might need to consider either buying a replacement board or sending it off for repair. We do have some people we recommend for board repair if you want to go that route (you can see a list of them under the Board (PCB) Repair & Component Sales heading on our resources page) but considering the age and availability of this board it might be cheaper to buy a replacement.

On the test switch, it’s pretty easy to wire it back up. Since Golden Tee is a JAMMA game, you can use these JAMMA pinouts to locate the test switch wire. All you need to do is connect this wire and a ground wire to a push button switch and you should be in business. Check out our post on Wiring A Push Button for more information.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
