Gorf Issue
Question from Cory: Hello, I have a Gorf game. It loads up fine and then once you hit the two player button it says player one get ready and then the screen goes black and then back to the “press one or two player button” screen. I have pulled all the boards and ran an eraser over the pins and I pulled the control connectors off the main board and cleaned them. I have looked over all the boards and didn’t see any burn, bulged or anything noticeable wrong. Any thoughts? Cory

Response from Jonathan: Cory,
Sounds like you are either have a board or a power supply issue. We recommend starting off this repair by making sure that you are getting enough voltage to the board. Check out our posts on Checking And Replacing A Power Supply and Checking A Classic Power Supply for more information on this process. You want to make sure that the board is getting +5 VDC on pin 21 of both the 21 and 28 pin connectors going to the logic board. It’s also a good idea to check for +12 VDC pin 19 of the 28 pin connector. Please see the Gorf pinouts for more information and to verify the location of the voltage pins. If you are getting close to +5 VDC, you may consider turning up the voltage to around +5.1 VDC or so to make sure that the board is getting enough voltage to start the game.
If the voltages are correct and you continue to have problems starting the game then we might be looking at a board issue. At this point, you can check out our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board for some tips that might help you get it running again. If the issue continues after trying those techniques then you will probably need to send the board off for repair. There are a couple of people that we recommend for these types of repairs. You can check out our resources page under the Board (PCB) Repair & Component Sales heading for a complete list. Some of these people include Raymond at Arcade Components. He does an excellent job of documenting what the problem is and how he fixes it with every board that he works on. Alex at Elektron Forge also does some board repair work in case you can’t get in touch with Raymond. Both guys are very good at board repair and can hopefully help you with your issues.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
