Ms. Pac Man Cabaret
Question from Dave: Hi, I purchased a machine at an auction. It fell face forward on my way home due to a windstorm. Everything works except the joystick. I do not believe that all four switches are bad. The player one and player two buttons both work. I tested the voltage on the button switch connections and the joystick switch connections and they are all showing about 2.22 volts. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dave

Response from Jonathan: Dave,
Since you are having issues with all 4 directions on your joystick, this problem could be caused by a break in the ground wire that connects all of these directional switches together. It is common for ground wires to be connected in a daisy chain fashion on control panels. Please see our post on Connecting Ground Wires On A Control Panel for more information. If there is a break in the chain, it can cause all of the parts after that break to stop working. We’re guessing that this could be the issue with your joystick. Make sure that the ground wires are connected properly to each switch and that they are connected to a ground pin inside your cabinet or on your harness. While you are checking this, it might also be a good idea to make sure all of the joystick switches are wired to the correct pins on your harness as well.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
