Problem with Hantarex MTC 900/E on PE06 board

Question from Adrian: Hello! I recently bought a Hellomat Automaten arcade cabinet with Hook game PCB inside. My problem is that everything worked fine for about 20 min after first start. Then the image started to distort vertically and shrunk to one horizontal line. It scared me so I turned it off as fast as I could. Now after turning it on there is no image at all. The screen is getting high voltage. There is sound and the controls works so I think the PCB is OK. When I turn it off, you can see a white horizontal line for split second and hear this characteristic sound. What do you think might be broken? Kindly regards, Adrian

Response from Jonathan: Adrian,

It sounds like your monitor is experiencing some vertical collapse and possibly some high voltage issues. We recommend starting off this repair by removing the chassis and touching up all the solder points. Since the monitor was working, it could be that some cold / cracked solder joints started causing some problems shortly after the cabinet was moved. Touching up the solder on these joints will hopefully help the issue. If the issue continues after touching up the solder joints on the chassis, we recommend doing a cap kit on the monitor and replacing the vertical IC chip (I believe it’s labelled IC1 on the board) to see if that solve the problem. Please check out our posts discussing monitor/screen issues on our website for more information about monitor repair in general. Hope that helps.
