question about hantarex polo 25″
Question from Dave: HI 🙂 I’ve searched everywhere on the internet for info or ways to correct this and I’m about to lose hope 🙁 Hopefully I can get answers from you. You guys look quite professional 🙂
I recently was given an old Mortal Kombat II arcade machine. I managed to change the caps and clean up everything. It was VERRRRRY messy. When we first plugged power in, it almost blew up. The monitor is a Hantarex Polo 25″ After DAYS of replacing parts everything was working fine at last! Except one thing: the screen is 1″ too big from left to right. I looked around the web to know where to change that. There is an horizontal width coil on board that I can use.
OK, that’s where it gets bad. I tried to make it turn with a plastic tool and tool broke. Out of luck. I then tried to use a little metal screwdriver. I didn’t read about the warnings annnnnd it happened ☹ Yeah, a part the screw’s surface broke and I can’t use it anymore. It didn’t shatter but making it turn will be hard. I checked most of pictures on web and that screw seem to be flush to the top. Mine was very deep right from the start.
I don’t know what to do. I can’t find a replacement part for this anywhere. Should I change that part into something that could act as replacement? Is there another way around? I really need to talk with a professional with this 🙁
Thank you for any help

Response from Jonathan: Dave,
Don’t lose hope! While we wouldn’t call ourselves professionals, we will definitely try to help you out with your issue.
First off, you did what we would have done in your situation. Adjusting the horizontal width coil is a good way to eliminate minor size issue such as what you were experiencing with your picture. With that said, you never want to force the horizontal width coil to turn. If it doesn’t turn easily then there’s a good chance it’s frozen up and will not adjust at all. It’s also a good idea to check your B+ voltage anytime you are having size issues with your picture as well. This is assuming, of course, that you’ve already tried adjusting the monitor using the controls on the monitor chassis or breakout board. That should always be the first area you try when you are experiencing this issue.
Of course, we now need to address the fact that the width coil is busted. Unfortunately we don’t know of anyone specifically selling Hantarex Polo replacement width coils. The good news is that there are some people who will hand make a new width coil for you. Chad at arcadecup.com has been known to hand make width coils for specific monitors. I believe the Hantarex Polo is included in that list. You might try contacting him to see if he is still providing this service or if he knows someone who is. We have no idea what he charges but hopefully it will be somewhat reasonable. Other than that, you might try to make due with the width coil you have by addressing the other areas we discussed above.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
